Save thousands of dollars in legal fees and commence with a more amicable client relationship. Lawyers like long terms of business to justify the high cost they charge. In our view, lengthy terms of business slow down the agreement process, often require review by a client’s legal counsel and can scare away new clients who are nervous about all the legal restrictions. If there is a disagreement during the recruitment process, and argument will occur no matter how long or short are the terms. Shorter terms actually leave less room for dispute as clients may actually read them. We challenged ourselves to start the client relationship on a more positive footing by first presenting company credentials followed by a more friendly ONE page terms of business that still contained all the most important terms. We actually ran this template past a recruitment industry lawyer who could not find any fault and suggested having it signed for stronger protection if a matter actually went to court. We recommend including the words “Subject to our terms and conditions”on all emails CVs and correspondence. Feel free to customise and seek your own legal advice but these terms have held up well in our experience.
