- Write a call script and practice until it becomes natural
- Make sure you have something of value to offer the other person e.g. market intelligence, access to a top candidate or an invitation
- Create a list of calls to make. Then start calling and don't stop until you have finished
- Think only of positive call outcomes. Thinking negatively will more often result in a negative outcome
- You are a professional with something of value to offer clients and candidates. Don't forget this!
- Schedule admin tasks such as database updates, emails and resume preparation outside of peak calling times
- If phone work is not natural to you, ask for help and coaching
- Before picking up the phone, close your eyes and recall a time call went well
- Smile when talking on the phone. It makes you sound more confident, friendly and engaging
- Be brave. Even if you are not, pretend! Nobody will know the difference.
